Footsteps . . .to Bloody Scotland

After sending off my pitch to Bloody Scotland, I started thinking more seriously about my novel. I had chapters on my computer; notes in notebooks; research in ring-binders. I'm usually an instinctive writer, not a big planner but I felt I wanted to try a different approach.

About a month prior to entering Pitch Perfect, I'd noticed some tweets about novel planning. Based on script writing ideas, they used a three-act approach. Someone had tweeted about a course exploring this technique but when I contacted them, the course was in the US. Boo!

Luckily, the course leader sent me links to their blog which had a summary of the technique. Hurrah!

It involved post-its and charts and columns. The analytical side of my brain absolutely loved it. Armed with a flipchart, post-its and coloured pens, I started mapping out my novel.

Then I found out I'd been one of the eight writers invited to pitch at Pitch Perfect! I'd made it through the first hurdle! Now, I had to turn my 100-word pitch into a 3 minute presentation.

I added another flip-chart page to the wall.
